Rio Grande Plains Texas Region

Loosely defined as the area south of San Antonio between the Rio Grande and the Gulf Coast, this region is a mix of grassland and shrubby "Brush Country." Agriculturally speaking, the land here is mostly devoted to rearing hardy livestock like goats and sheep; indeed, the state's Angora goat and mohair industry is centered here. Although predominantly hot and dry, especially in summer, Dimmit and La Salle counties form part of the "Winter Garden" sub-region, known for the winter cultivation of fruits and vegetables through large-scale irrigated farming enterprises.
